Early morning accident claims life

Breaking news - there was a single motor vehicle collision just outside of Port Hardy, approximately 1 km south of Fort Rupert Road, this morning at 5:57 a.m.

Gazette staff arrived on the scene around 10:00 a.m. A vehicle was resting in the ditch and members of the Port Hardy RCMP and North Vancouver Island Traffic Services were on the scene.

The male driver from Port Hardy, B.C., sustained injuries and was transported by EHS to Port Hardy Hospital for treatment, but did not survive.

The incident is currently under investigation. At this time, speed and/or alcohol do not appear to be contributors to the collision.
