A large adult male cougar was captured in-between Fort Rupert Elementary School and Beaver Harbour Trailer Park Monday morning.

Conservation from Campbell River arrived to locate and trap the animal. Port Hardy RCMP Const. Dave Herman confirmed the animal was captured Monday afternoon.

“The conservation officer felt the risk was too high to be near the school,” said Herman. He added the cougar was destroyed at the behest of the conservation officer’s recommendation. Fort Rupert Elementary school was forced to cancel their baseball tournament due to safety reasons.
