Police confirm one person has died and multiple others were injured after a multi-vehicle accident near Quesnel Friday evening.

On Friday April 21 at 5:13 p.m., Quesnel RCMP responded to the scene of a crash involving a Greyhound bus and three other vehicles.

Upon arrival at the scene police discovered that one person had died while there were numerous other patients with minor to serious injuries.

“The crash involved a Greyhound Bus, a passenger car, a Ford Pickup and a Kubota Tractor pulling a piece of farm equipment,” reported Cpl. Madonna Saunderson.

A Collision Reconstructionist from Williams Lake has been called to assist Cariboo Traffic Services as well as members from North District Traffic Services. The Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Services are on scene as well.

“The investigation is in the early stages and police have not yet determined what may have caused this crash,” said Saunderson.

“Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. All vehicles involved were travelling north on Highway 97.”

The highway was closed to traffic in both directions until early Saturday morning.

A fatal multi-vehicle accident involving a Greyhound bus has shut down Highway 97 near Quesnel, B.C.

Reports from the scene say one person was killed in the accident involving a bus, a tractor and a car.

BC Emergency Health Services have only confirmed that paramedics transported eight people to hospital, one via air and seven via ambulance.

DriveBC says Highway 97 has been closed in both directions three kilometres south of Kersley for several hours. There is currently no estimated time of reopening or available detour.
