Fire rescue puts out vehicle fire that caused wildfire near Anutz Lake

BC Wildfire Service has taken over the scene now to get the fire under control

A vehicle fire near Anutz Lake ended up causing a wildfire earlier today (June 14).

“Just before 8 a.m. this morning our crew was called to a vehicle fire near Anutz lake,” said Port McNeill Fire Rescue in a social media post. “Pumper 4 and Water Tender 1 were dispatched. Upon arrival the vehicle fire had spread to the forest as well. Our crews quickly extinguished the vehicle and worked to limit the spread of the forest fire with help of a helicopter.”

According to PMFR, BC Wildfire Service has taken over the scene now to get the fire under control.

“A reminder that the fire danger rating is high and extreme in some spots on the island so be extra careful.”

As of 11:28 a.m. on Wednesday, the wildfire was reported by BCWS as being one hectare in size and classified as out of control, meaning it is continuing to spread and is not responding to suppression efforts.
