Fall season has definitely arrived in the North Island.
Hello and welcome back to another edition of Tyson's Thoughts. I've been really enjoying writing these columns as of late, as I find them to be a nice change of pace that helps to balance local news and photos coverage.
Columns are a unique thing. For starters, they're not editorials. They tell a personal story and are more like a journal entry than anything else. I've never really been interested in writing editorials. In fact, I very much prefer to write from my own perspective and not the newspaper's. Why is that, you might be wondering? Because I feel it adds a little bit of a personal touch to what can generally be a pretty 'cut and dry' read.
With that little introduction out of the way, let's get back to the main topic at hand, the fall season.
I love it when the weather starts changing here in Port Hardy. Fall season for me generally starts up around Thanksgiving. After enjoying a delicious turkey dinner with my family, I start to relax into hibernation mode, staying indoors, drawing in my sketchbook, watching scary movies, and just enjoying a slower pace of life than I do in the summer when I'm out and about enjoying the sunshine as much as I can.
That said, it's still important to get some exercise in during fall. Depending on if it's raining or not I'll go for a 5k run around town, and of course I'll be on the wrestling mats Mondays and Wednesdays after work training in the evenings with my students at Port Hardy Secondary School.
Wrestling season runs from October to March. It's the perfect time to train inside of the gymnasium because when the weather is bad, you don't want to go outdoors and you can still get a good workout in.
I guess you could say the older I get, the more I've learned to appreciate the fall season and everything that comes with it.
