The North Island Gazette Christmas Hamper Fund, a beloved community tradition for 46 years, is launching its annual campaign with a pressing need for support, the demand for assistance is higher than ever.
Last year, the Hamper Fund saw a record number of applications, reflecting the growing challenges faced by many North Island residents. As with numerous food banks and other aid organizations, the fund is facing financial difficulties and has limited resources to sustain its operations beyond the next three years
“We’re incredibly grateful for the community’s continued support,” said Natasha Griffiths, Hamper Fund President. “However, the need in our communities remains significant. This year, we anticipate helping over 2,500 individuals, many of whom are families with young children.”
The hamper form application is available online: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScfcO-_yV2EcOaaAK3-ZiHl_QlLLLFA5fAa80XyLsifSKmGBQ/viewform. No applications will be accepted past Nov. 29 at 4 p.m.
The Hamper Fund is no longer accepting food donations but is welcoming cash donations, e-transfers to hamperfund@gmail.com, cheques, and new toys. To meet the increasing demand, the fund has set a financial goal of $50,000.
“Being from the North Island, it’s incredibly rewarding to give back and help those in need during the holidays,” said Griffiths. She expressed gratitude to the Hamper Fund board members and volunteers who dedicate their time to make this program possible.
