The North Island communities came together in Port Hardy on Monday, Sept. 30 to march in honour of the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation.
The march started at Port Hardy Secondary School and went down to Carrot Park, where the hundreds of participants, all decked out in orange, listened to speeches from local dignitaries and enjoyed lunch together.
The National Day of Truth and Reconciliation is a time to reflect on the enduring legacies of colonialism and the systemic injustices faced by First Nations communities across Canada. It is a day to acknowledge the painful history that continues to impact children and families today while also celebrating the strides that have been made toward healing and justice.
