Gate House rocks out on New Year's Eve with 3 unique local bands

The Gate House Theatre provides Port McNeil with something that most little towns the same size don’t have

The Gate House Theatre in Port McNeill put on a rockin' good New Year's Eve show with three local bands combining to play well past midnight.

First up was a four-piece group called Vintage Hearts who played a great collection of classic country songs that were all very well received by the audience.

The second band to play on the night was the Whiskey Jacks, a fun rock group from Port Hardy who always manage to pack the dance floor at every venue they play with their varied set list and signature sound.

Headlining the show was classic rock/metal band Sidewinder who brought some high energy tunes to the evening while also slowing things down with a well-timed power ballad.

With an enthusiastic crowd turning up to watch the three bands play all night long, Gate House president Gord Oppen said afterwards he felt the night was "a success, and a good acknowledgement of our local musicians."

He noted while the show wasn't completely sold out, they still drew in a good-sized crowd and he feels the theatre's best strategy continues to be to put on "high calibre shows and hope the word gets out and some new people come out to see."

Oppen added The Gate House Theatre provides Port McNeil with something that most little towns the same size don’t have.

"We have a great performance facility, and our challenge is to utilize it and make it relevant and appealing to the largest percentage of our community."
