Shortly after midnight on January 20, Port Hardy RCMP received a complaint of shots fired on Beaver Harbour Road.

After arriving on the scene, police determined the shots had been fired into a residence and secured the area.

Two suspects, John William Melan and William Nason, were arrested a short distance away and charged with firearm related offences.

No one was injured as a result of this incident.

Five months later, the suspects are “still currently before the court with no disposition received as yet,” said Port Hardy RCMP Sgt. Wes Olsen.

Olsen said Melan is still “in custody related to the outstanding charges from this matter and Nason, although not in custody, is bound by court ordered conditions.”

As part of the original investigation, police executed a search warrant at a residence located on Byng Road. Seized were firearms, a quantity of drugs and cash.
