Dear editor,

North Island Citizens:

I would like to respond to the January 23rd, 2019 article in the North Island Gazette where “Trevena blasts Island Health for neglecting North Island Villages”. Myself and Council would like to thank Trevena for her involvement in these matters. She is 100% accurate in her comments.

It would seem that both Port Alice and Alert Bay are under attack by Island Health. This is nothing new to Port Alice. Island Health has methodically undermined our health care in Port Alice. Every person over 55 years of age and every mother with small children are panic stricken with the new mandate from Island Health. Great job - well done VIHA!

Island Health’s detailed response: This almost sounds like local leadership is in some way supporting these initiatives. Let me be crystal clear on this matter. NO We do not support your spin doctor take on these matters. What ever happened to ethics? Do you just push them aside when they don’t support your outcomes? Minister Dix - when we elected your government you promised better health care not less. Is there any chance that you and your team could come together and figure this out?

Sincerely

Kevin Cameron

Mayor of Port Alice
