Dear editor,
It makes a person wonder. There was an article in the North Island Gazette dated May 15, 2024, where the headline reads, “Groundbreaking ceremony held at First Nation’s new gas station site”.
It says in the article the Quatsino First Nation received a grant of $992,700 from the provincial government. I say good for the Quatsino First Nation. Chief Tom Nelson says they tried a few times with no success, but were successful this time.
For a couple of years now we’ve been told by all levels of government that they want everybody to be driving electric vehicles by 2035, and that vehicles burning fossil fuel is coming to an end.
To clear up any confusion, somebody from the provincial government should explain to the people of British Columbia why they felt the need to grant almost a million dollars to build a gas station, whether it be to First Nations or any other group or person. This is not going to pass the smell test.
