North Island Concert Society presents Rachel Therrien and Latin Jazz

The North Island Concert Society is excited to showcase the Rachel Therrien Latin Jazz Project on Sunday, April 6 at 7 p.m. at the Port Hardy Civic Centre.

From Montreal to New York City, French-Canadian trumpeter, composer and producer Therrien boasts an enviable CV. She is considered one of the most promising jazz musicians, playing a wide variety of musical styles and rhythms.



Winner of the 2015 TD Grand Prize Jazz Award at the renowned Montreal International Jazz Festival, the 2016 Stingray Jazz Rising Star Award and nominated as Best Jazz Producer at the Independent Music Awards 2018, she has shared stages with many world-class musicians in clubs, festivals and on television throughout the Americas and the Caribbean.​ Rachel has published five records: VENA (2020), Why Don’t You Try (2017), Pensamiento: Colombia (2016), Home Inspiration (2014) and On Track (2011). She received stellar reviews from magazines and newspapers all over North America. For the last few years she has toured as bandleader all over Canada, USA, Europe, Ukraine, Mexico and more, taking on the most prestigious jazz festivals and clubs.​

Therrien has presented her Latin Jazz project in many different formats since 2009 with compositions and arrangements tinted with many musical influences from different Latin-American and Caribbean countries. After living in Cuba, studying at the Instituto Supérior de Arte in Havana Cuba in 2008 and having a multitude of experiences with many Latin music groups, Therrien founded her own project to play the music of the cultures she’s so passionate about.

Will Soto Barreto, piano

Therrien runs a warm show high in soulful human connections with covers of groups Irakere, Buena Vista Social Club, Dizzy Gillespie, a Latin jazz John Coltrane and many compositions. If you like Jazz and love Latin music and dance, Therrien’s “Latin Jazz Project” is the perfect concert for you.
