If the feedback from the North Island communities is any indication, Port Hardy's annual Filomi Days festival was another huge success this year.
"I think it went very well," said Port Hardy councillor Treena Smith, who's also on the Filomi Days committee, when asked to comment. "Our volunteers showed up and they were amazing. Each year, we strive to make Filomi Days better, and this year, the layout changes were well received. It is hard to believe that with the amount of planning and organizing that goes into this event, it is all done by a small group of dedicated volunteers. "
Filomi Days committee member Leightan Wishart agreed with Smith, noting they had "more vendors than we've ever had before, and I got the impression, as did most of our volunteers, that we had more people attend this year and I think that it was a very big success. We had a tremendous amount of volunteers, probably about 55 people in total, who helped us with the event. There's about 24 people on the committee, they all worked very hard as we start in January and wrap up in August when we've got all our final figures done."
Port Hardy mayor Pat Corbett-Labatt isn't on the Filomi Days committee, but she said she has heard nothing but positives about the annual festival that takes place every third weekend of July and features nonstop entertainment around the clock.
"I think altogether it went very well," she stated. "It was exciting, well attended, and the weather was awesome, what more could you ask for?"
She noted her favourite moment from the weekend was probably the kids fishing derby, which is put on every year by the Rainbow Lodge.
"They had 65 kids registered and every single kid received an award," confirmed Corbett-Labatt, who also noted it was nice to see North Island Powell-River MP Rachel Blaney come to town and enjoy the festivities with her.
