Head coach Paul Cagna and assistant coach Tyson Whitney awarded Port Hardy Secondary School Grade 11 student Anthony Blacha with a PHSS Wrestling sweatshirt on Monday, Nov. 18 during the team’s evening practice.

Blacha now joins his PHSS alumni teammates Maven Labree and Sheldon Frank as the third student to earn a sweatshirt since the wrestling program restarted after the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I’m proud of Anthony for all the hard work he’s put in on the mats over the last three years,” said Whitney. “He has really earned this sweatshirt and the opportunity to be recognized. Paul Cagna and I are looking forward to seeing him compete at the Vancouver Island Zone Championships later on in the season.”

Blacha was Frank’s main training partner last season when Frank placed fifth at zones in the 63 kg weight class and qualified for the BC Provincial Championships.
