Doug Worthington’s councillor candidate biography

My name is Doug Worthington. My wife Joanne and I have lived in the village for 15 years. I’m running for reelection as councillor for Port Alice. I believe my 35(ish) years experience in customer and technical service with a common sense approach will continue to be an asset to the village. While tourism certainly factors into our changed demographic, council’s focus should be on our full-time residents’ and businesses’ current and future needs which will, in turn, benefit part-time residents and tourists. By managing revenue within our means, continuing to lobby expansion of community forest assets, encouraging economic diversification, recognizing opportunities and listening to residents, we will ensure we remain an economically viable and ecologically vibrant community. The future requires updates and upgrades to our aging infrastructure done in a planned, staged, fiscally responsible manner. We must take advantage of provincial and federal grants whenever possible. We must maintain, retain/expand our existing services to keep our families here and continue to attract new residents. Now is not the time to be losing services or closing doors. Port Alice is open for business. Thank you.
