Rick Marcotte’s councillor candidate biography

I came to Port Hardy in July of 1969 to work for Seafood Products Ltd. I originally was from Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan and finished high school at Semiahmoo in White Rock, then worked a few years at the White Rock Arena. Port Hardy attracted me with its beauty right away and has been home ever since. I have been and am a member of local groups, in my earlier days have played fast ball, slow pitch, curled, played both senior and old timers hockey, and now spend my spare time playing golf at Seven Hills or playing snooker with a wonderful group of guys at the Port Hardy Seniors centre.

I have served two terms on Port Hardy Council, the first three years with Bev Parnham as Mayor and the last four years with Mayor Bood. I have served on several committees, some of which are; Port Hardy Tourism, Vancouver Island North Tourism, Operations, Community Consultation, Aboriginal Consultation, Emergency Planning and Council Rep. for the Fire Department. I have occasionally also attended as a Port Hardy Representative on the Regional District of Mount Waddington. I feel that we have had a wonderful council, that can discuss issues of importance to our community with some energy, than continue to work together with no hard feelings after. There are some ongoing issues to be dealt with by the new Council that will be elected in October and I hope to be there with your support to have some input.
