7,000 customers without power in the North Island

Communities on the North Island are in the dark as BC Hydro crews try to locate the cause of an extensive power outage.

“After extensive patrol, crews continue attempting to locate the fault along our transmission lines impacting 7,000 customers on the north Vancouver Island area,” a statement on BC Hydro’s website says. “Patrol will continue and we'll share updates as they become available.”

Power has been out in most areas since approximately 6 a.m. this morning and there is no predicted time for when it will be restored.

Affected communities include Port Hardy, Port McNeil, Hardy Bay, Alert Bay Quatsino, Mahatta River, Sointula, Winter Harbour, Holberg, Port Alice, Woss.
