Filomi fireworks draw some heat from locals

Some Port Hardy locals were unhappy with the Filomi Days fireworks display

Some people are not happy that Filomi Days was a blast this year.

District of Port Hardy Manager of Operations & Community Services Sean Mercer told members of the Parks & Recreation Review Committee that he was notified of complaints about the fireworks by the Harbour Authority.

The wind blew shrapnel from the fireworks onto boats at the Seagate Wharf, made a mess of the boats, and were a fire hazard.

Mercer said he would ask the Filomi Days committee to ensure that the fireworks barge be anchored further out next year.

There was also an issue with boaters coming alongside the barge and the district will request help from the RCMP, Coastguard and Fisheries and Oceans to patrol the area.
