The North Island has had no new COVID-19 cases for two weeks now. The latest local health area update shows that between Jan. 24 and 30, there were zero lab-confirmed cases from Zeballos, Woss, the Tri-Port towns and surrounding areas. The prior week, Jan. 17-23, also had zero new cases.
The rest of the North Island is showing a week-over-week decrease as well. Vancouver Island West — Tahsis and Gold River — had just one new case, after jumping up to four the prior week. The Greater Campbell River area had four, and increase from two the week before. Comox Valley, the most populous Local Health Area in the North Island, amazingly showed just one new case, down from 14 between Jan. 17-23.
Central and South Vancouver Island have not fared so well, continuing an upwards trend.
This comes as Dr. Bonnie Henry announced an indefinite extention to the ban on social gatherings, effective Feb. 5.
Cumulative numbers have also been released, showing total lab-confirmed cases since January last year.
Vancouver Island North has had 63 cases up until Jan. 31, 2021. Greater Campbell River region has had 66; Vancouver Island West has had 10, and the Comox Valley has had 146.
