It is with heartfelt sorrow we announce the sudden passing of our beloved and wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Tula Masterman on June 3, 2008.
Tula was born in Port Hardy on May 12, 1922 when Port Hardy was across the bay from its present site. She was the daughter of Ole and Jenny Gunderson but when her mother became ill when Tula was just a baby, Tula was taken in by Alexander and Sarah Lyon and raised as one of their family. She had a happy childhood attending Port Hardy’s one room school and later helping out in the Lyon’s general store and post office. She married Albert Masterman in 1943. They were married for 58 years until Albert’s death in 2001.
Tula will be remembered for her kindness and thoughtful ways. She had an incredible memory for birthdays and her many friends were sure to receive a call or card on their special day. Her wit and entertaining stories of her early life in Port Hardy kept us all entertained.
Tula was predeceased by her husband Albert, son Norman and brother Lief.
She will be sadly missed by her sons Jack(Edna), Ken(Alison) Tom(Linda) and David(Gail) and her daughter Kama(Mark), by the devoted grandchildren and great-grandchildren she loved so dearly Lorri(Rod) - Kaitlyn and Bailey; Karen(Rick) - Cody and Brayden; Michelle(Russell) - Jackson and Ryan; Deryck(Val) - Emily; Brian(Leanna) - Anthony, Tyanna and Haylee; Kelly(Jason) - Adysen and Presley; Julie(Chris)- Holly and Tavish; Scott and Courtney and by her brother John(Joan) in Vancouver.
A celebration of life was held June 10, 2008 in Port Hardy.
