Late of Nanaimo, Parksville, Sointula and long time resident of Ocean Falls, 1930 to 1968.

Ethel passed away peacefully in Dufferin Place ex. Care on the beautiful morning of April 26.

Ethel was born and raised in the Finnish community of Sointula BC, after finishing school she looked for work at the Pacific Mills Paper Plant in Ocean Falls, it was there that she met her future husband Armando (Army) and eventually married in Astoria Oreg. Dec. 1933, they lived and worked in O.F. for another 30yrs. Army predeceased Ethel in 98 after 65yrs of marriage.

Ethel’s passions were her family, bowling, boating, fishing, camping, traveling and her two dogs named “Lucky”.

She was well known in O.F. for her Ten Pin bowling achievements, when in 1945 she bowled a perfect game in Ten Pin play, not only a perfect game but 22 consecutive strikes in a row. Something not achieved by any Canadian woman at that time. She was also known for her Ladies wear, known as the “Style Shoppe” where her motto was "One of a kind."

Ethel is survived by her Son Gary (May), Grandchildren, Darlene(Al), Grant (Shelly) and Penny. Grt. Grandchildren, Mathew, Kaitlyn, Isaac and Kashyra and many nieces, cousins and friends who she loved dearly.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of Dufferin Place for making Grandma’s final years so comfortable and happy, particularly, Ron, Gillian, Cindy and Marie and also Dr. Baird for his compassionate care, God bless you all, from the family, and Ethel in particular, we are sure she is thinking of you all, from the wonderful, peaceful place she has gone.

Thanks for the wonderful memories, laughs and tears Grandma, we know you are at peace now.

In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful if you so choose to donate to the heart and stroke foundation in Mother’s name.

A visitation and service will be held at 1st Memorial Chapel 1720 Bowen Rd. from 1:00 P.M. to 3:30 P.M, Saturday May 7.
