On April 22 at 4:15 p.m., Bertha Esther Pazarena (nee Luck) passed away peacefully at Lions Gate Hospital. Holding her hand was, as always, her beloved husband of 72 years, Emil.
Esther was born October 5, 1918 in Sointula where she grew up with her Finnish-born parents Otto and Jenny Luck, her brother Wilho and sisters Ellen and Mary. In 1937, Esther wed the love of her life and best friend Emil; the two then started a family and moved to Port McNeill.Esther was an accomplished gymnast, avid card player, dancer, badminton player, and active in community events. In 1974, Esther and Emil retired and moved to North Vancouver.
Esther leaves behind her adored husband Emil, daughter Arlene, son Calvin (Pat), five grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and one great great-granddaughter.
Life without Esther’s kindheartedness and love is unimaginable. She was truly a great and precious person who made our lives better by just being around her. We love her very much and hope she has found peace where she has moved on to. A memorial service was held in North Vancouver Saturday May 16.
