Born July 30, 1986

It is with the deepest grief and sorrow we announce the passing of Brian Dorward.

Brian was hiking at the Waterfalls on Gilford Island with friends when he slipped and fell. He never recovered from his injuries.

Brian was born in the Port Hardy hospital and grew up in Hyde Creek.

He loved being outside. As a child he would spend countless hours playing in the dirt, sand and mud puddles around his home. As a young adult, Brian enjoyed fishing, crabbing, boating, driving around the logging roads exploring, camping and generally enjoying all the outdoor activities of the North Island.

Brian was a very good and good hearted person and had a special gift with animals. When the chickens were out of their coup and no one could catch them, Brian would simply walk over to them and pick them up. The animals seemed to sense he would do them no harm. He always had a variety of animals around when he was growing up and even in adulthood his pets were very special to him. As big as he was at 6’6” he was always especially sensitive and caring of those around him.

He found happiness and contentment in Port McNeill with his partner Tina. Brian was so excited and proud when they discovered they were going to be parents.

Brian is survived by his partner Tina with on-the-way baby Dorward. Mother Lynn, Father Dale (Janet), Sister Shawna (Dave), Grandparents Mac and Nancy Dorward and Elaine Evans, Auntie Chris (Gord), Uncle Harry (Carole), Auntie Vickie (Henry), Auntie Donna (Ken), Uncle Ron, Uncle Terry (Faye), Uncle Clint, Uncle Graham, Aunt Shelley, his many cousins that he played and partied with Ben, Jill, Alex, Tony, Bradley, Brooke, Ross and numerous friends.

An open service will be held at the Port McNeill Community Hall at 3 pm Saturday Aug 23rd.
