A Pioneer Passes

Catherine Monroe Henderson Adams

Sept. 9, 1900 - Jan. 10, 2003.

She lived to the ripe old age of 102. She was one of the most knowledgable ladies of our time. She had 6 children and was predeceased by 3. She was a big part of ‘Nakwaxda’xw history. She took on other people’s children and cared for them.

She had a very interesting beginning. Her parents had a homestead on Seymour Inlet. They were on their way to Port Hardy where she was to be born. She decided to arrive ahead of time. So her father beached the canoe on a small island without even a tree on it.

After she was born they carried on to Port Hardy. The first home she ever entered was that of the Lyon’s family. Through the years the Lyon’s family were kin to her. She always spoke well of them.

She will be sadly missed by over 200 grand and great grand children and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was held on Friday, January 17, 2003 at 1 pm at the Community Hall in Alert Bay.
