Dene was born and raised in West Vancouver and started his long career as a shipwright at Quatsino Boat yards where he built and repaired boats for 40 years. He was an active member of the community, volunteering for search and rescue in Quatsino Sound for many years. Dene retired in 1991 and he and Mae became snowbirds, wintering in Yuma, Arizona and spending their summers in Courtenay, B.C
A loving family man, he leaves behind his wife Mae, son John (Lorraine) Stephenson, Saskatchewan, daughters Jeune (Randy) Domenko, Williams Lake, Jackie (Robert) Howich, Port Hardy and Judy (Jim) Clark, Port McNeill, grandchildren Jodi,Erin,Jason,Janine, Sean, Robin, Jamie-lee, Brian, Matthew and Daren and 7 great-grandchildren, Travis, Tristan, Stephanie, Des’re, Angela, Ian and Paige.
A memorial service to celebrate Dene’s life will be held in Quatsino on March 15, 2003 at 1:00 o’clock. Boats will be available from Coal Harbour at 12:00 o’clock. Please call in advance 949-6801. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
