Dennis Stanley Webber
Born in Chemanius on November 11, 1959
Dennis has left his long and successful life at sea and will be missed by numerous close friends in the B.C. commercial fishing industry. He was held in high regard by these friends and co-workers. He skippered many commercial deep sea fishing vessels and gained the respect of owners and crew members alike. The attractions of the sea for Dennis, were equalled by the attractions that the land and soil held for him. He had an abiding passion for the earth, loved working in his garden tilling the soil and working with his tractors (what a collection of farm equipment!!).
His wife, partner and life long friend, Cindy, treasures her memories with love, laughter and joy. She will be forever thankful for the legacy of goodness he left their children, son Mackenzie, and daughters Sharla and Lana. Dennis was a hero to those children and this was exemplified when they heard an official refer to Dennis’ final actions on the Hope Bay as being, “incredibly brave”. He was predeceased by his Dad, Albert, whom he loved and respected, and who no doubt is out there laughing and getting him up to date. Their shared conversations, and his penchant for reading were a highlight in Dennis’ life. Dennis is survived by and will be sorely missed by his Mother Betty, sister Gwen (Doug), brothers Rick (Shirley), Harvey, Chip-Russell (Bonnie) and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A warm caring relationship existed with his Mother-in-Law Ruth, and likewise with Cindy’s sisters, Cora (Rod), Carmen (Dusty), and his friend and advisor Ken Williams.
Dennis had the gift of being able to spread sunshine wherever he went. He will be sadly missed. His family and many friends are fortunate and grateful to have shared time with him, and to have some great memories we can all build upon.
A memorial service and celebration will be held at Island Hall Beach Resort, 181 West Island Highway, Parksville, on March 03 at 3 pm. Cindy invites all to come and honor Dennis, to reminisce and to share with others their experience with this special man.
