November 25, 2006

August 10, 1929-November 25, 2006

On Saturday morning after an amazing journey of 77 years, Detta peacefully passed away at her home in Port Hardy with her loving family by her side. Detta will be deeply missed and forever remembered by everyone that was part of her life. She is survived by her 6 children: David, Ethel (Gary), Calvin (Brenda), Elaine (Ron), Lizzie, Audrey (Doug). Grandchildren: Dawn, Frankie, Mary, John, Dusty, Ashley, Robert, Crystal, Keith, Herbert, Bernie, Vicki, Katrina, Janella and Great Grandchildren: Frank, Hunter, Alyshia, Talia, Ashleigh and Xander. Predeceased by son Jimmy Willie and husband Dusty Cadwallader.

Detta’s early years were spent in the villages of Wakeman Sound “Athath xu”, Kingcome Inlet, “Gwayee” and Gilford Island “Gwayasdums” with her brothers Albert & Pat, sisters Harriet, Ethel, Katherine, Winifred, Beverely, Christine, Lily, Florence, Eliza, Gloria and Patsy at a time when the old ways and beliefs of our people were practiced on a daily basis. These virtues were important and guided her through her life to uphold the nobility she was born to.

Dorothy raised her family in Port Hardy were she worked at Seafood Products as a shore worker until the age of 65. After her retirement she enjoyed her family, her friends, grandchildren, canoe journeys, camping, travelling, attended all cultural events and was her Grandchildren’s biggest sports fan.

The family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the health care professionals for their guidance and care. Should family and friends so desire, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to: Canadian Cancer Society, Breast Cancer Research Unit B 1423 16th Ave. Campbell River, BC V9W 2E4 in Dorothy’s memory.
