Douglas Tiffen Wallace

It with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Douglas Wallace after a brief but valiant battle with cancer.

He is survived by his loving wife, Linda, his children, Christopher and the Wallace family of Kelowna, Tiffany and Brian of Port Hardy, sisters Eileen of Delta and Norma of Kaslo, brother Grant of Ottawa, his cousin Mike Young of Vancouver and the Haines family of Fruitvale as well as countless friends and coworkers. He was predeceased by his mother Maisie and his father Raymond.

Douglas moved his family to Port Hardy in 1987, where he worked for E.J. Klassen for a brief time before taking a position as Partsman at Dave Landon Motors. Doug was still employed at Landon's at the time of his passing. Doug loved camping, fishing and enjoying the beauty of the North Island. He was greatly involved with the local Scouting movement, and was honored in 2004 for his contribution to Scouting on the North Island. He retired from Scouting in 2005 after 25 years of service.

The family wished to thank all the nurses and doctors at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria as well as Drs De Wit and Fletcher and the nursing staff at Port Hardy Hospital for the care and dignity they gave him during his illness.

A memorial service will be held at the Port Hardy Legion hall on Sunday, June 1st at 2PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the B.C. Cancer Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.

His ship has set sail, but his crew was left ashore to keep the home fires burning.
