November 25, 1928 - January 22, 2022
In Loving Memory ~ Mom began her life being the first born of 3 girls to her parents Andrew & Catherine Degelman on their homestead in Raymore, Saskatchewan on November 25, 1928. She passed away peacefully early Saturday morning on January 22, 2022 in Campbell River with the strength and dignity that she was known for.
Mom married our father Joe on July 1, 1957 in Regina, Sask. They began their family in 1961 in Yorkton, Sask. with the birth of their daughter Linda and then in 1962 the birth of their oldest son Wade and in 1963 while living in Kelowna their youngest son Garth was born.
Once we all had started school in Kelowna we moved to Wildwood (just outside of Williams Lake) and built our log home which honed our hammering skills. The North Island was our family's next move to Port McNeill, Port Alice & Port Hardy. Some time after we moved out and ventured on own paths our parents took to living in Calgary, Kimberley, Campbell River and then they were drawn back to beautiful Port Hardy.
Mom is predeceased by her mother(1943), her father(1994), oldest son Wade(1996), husband Joe(2013), middle sister Elsie(2011) & youngest sister Vivian(2018).
She enjoyed dancing polka's and waltz's with her partner of 56 anniversaries, knitting, crocheting, playing a full Yahtzee score sheet game with 10 dice one roll at a time (patent pending-lol), listening to old time country music, making cabbage rolls & meat pies for many, solitaire with a deck of cards that sometimes due to our Uncle Paul had a missing card or two.
She didn't mind rewatching old movies & westerns and would be able to let you know the names of the stars and a bit of the story line but hardly ever the ending as the movies would not be able to hold her attention to the end as her latest knitting or crocheting project would be resting in her lap with eyes closed.
Our parents made a commitment to visit our grandparents and relatives often either on Christmas or summer vacations.
Mom is survived by her 1/2 brother Bob and will be very sadly missed by her children Linda (Mike), Garth, daughter-in-law Roxanne, daughter-in-law Tammy (Warren), grandchildren Michelle (Ben), Roland (Briana), Rebecca (Mike), Kelly (Kyle), Sean (Shelagh), great grandchildren Zackary, Bethany, Jayce, Brycen, Kinsley J., Lyla, Tre, Jakobi, Landon, Kinsley E., Dean & William along with many family & friends.
Mom's first 19 yrs of her life growing up on their working farm gave her many lasting memories. After her farm life she went on to waitressing in Regina during her twenty's where she met our father. Her pride & joy was her family, making sure her children were well dressed, well behaved, off to school on time, ironing Dad's shirts to perfection and always being there when we needed her.
While Dad was at work, she could also be the plumber, painter, seamstress, barbie clothes maker, baker and so much more. She became Dad's business partner/assistant later on in life and continued to be always by his side.
Our birthday parties and being with family during the Christmas holidays were among her favorite times of the year. Great memories of camping, hunting & fishing well into their senior years with family & friends, Dad perking the coffee & Mom frying chicken over the open fire. She cherished all the friendships she made during her life's journey.
Thank you to all the nurses & care staff during Mom's residency at Discovery Harbour Care home in Campbell River and also Dr. Noel, Dr. Walker, the nurses & care staff on 3B at the Campbell River Hospital.
There will be no service at this time in view of Covid 19 protocol. There will be a family gathering in the future to remember and share memories of our Mom & Dad.
Miss You
