Frances (Sannie) Elizabeth (Lyon) Storey

November 19, 2006

March 16, 1909-November 19, 2006.

“A Grand Lady has taken a rest”

Sannie was born in Blairmore, Alberta and moved to Vancouver, British Columbia in 1920. She is the last of her siblings of four brothers and six sisters.

She was predeceased by her first husband George (Paddy) Storey in 1963 and her second, Allan (Tex) Lyon in 2004.

She is survived by her three children, Suzanne (Alan) Wickens, Leslie (Heather) Storey, Patsy (Peter) Olczak, eight grandchildren, Jennifer; Andrew; Katherine; Jessica; Patrick; Kearon; Michael and Derek, seven great grandchildren, two step-children Allan M. (Sharon) Lyon and Sally McMahon and their families. She was predeceased by her grandson Stewart Wickens in 1996.

Her early life was spent with her brothers and sisters in Vancouver as her mother died when she was ten years old and her father was away much of the time working.

She met Paddy while nursing him at Vancouver General Hospital. Sannie and Paddy were married in Vancouver in 1936 and moved as pioneers to the Port Hardy area. A new bride, she quickly learned the ways of running a logging camp and became chief cook and bottle washer for Paddy. She also managed to birth three children and provide their early schooling. After Paddy died she married long-time friend, Tex Lyon, who also had lost his spouse. Together they shared the last half of their lives together on Storey’s Beach. The door was always open and guests feasted on Sannie’s home baked bread and other goodies. The teapot was never empty, nor the cupboard bare.

A memorial service will be held Friday, November 24, 2006 at 1:00pm at the St. Columba Anglican United Church, 9190 Granville Street, Port Hardy. Flowers should be sent to the church, or in lieu, a donation may be made to the church in Sannie’s name.

A cornerstone gone,

A treasure lost,

Forever in our hearts.
