Fred Lind – Skipper

May 10, 1935 – May 28, 2010

Fred was born in Port Alice, British Columbia on May 10, 1935 and passed away peacefully on May 28, 2010 in the Port Hardy Hospital. Fred grew up in the small fishing village of Quatsino, British Columbia where he met and married his wife Arlyn Johnson. Fred lived and worked his entire life in Port Alice, dedicating fifty years to his career as a seaman. Fred enjoyed each and every day that he spent on the tug and found his job to be more of a hobby than work. Fred ended his career on the Mahatta II and spent many of his retired days watching it travel up and down the inlet from his living room window.

Fred volunteered many hours as a fire fighter when he joined the Port Alice volunteer Fire Department in 1966 and went on to serve as the Fire Chief from 1974 to 1994.

Fred is survived by his wife Arlyn, brother Ron (Adele), sister Sylvia, children Gail (Trent), Ron (Nicki), Mike (Holly), Debbie (Paul), grandchildren Krista (Jason), Paul (Tasha), Brandon, Samantha, Max, Scott, Ryan, Erin, great grandchildren Alec, Kiana, Tyler, nieces Heidi and Jennifer and nephew David and will be sadly missed by all his friends and family.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Muscular Dystrophy or a charity of your preference is most appreciated.
