Holmes, Ida Iona, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully in the Port McNeill hospital on November 24, 2003 in her 94th year. She was predeceased (December 8, 1996) by and will join her beloved husband Fred with the Lord; Mom is survived by and will be sadly missed and forever remembered by her devoted son Wayne (Kathryn), grandchildren Corrinne (Mike) and Charlene, and great grandchildren, Ashley, Madeline and Logan; son Larry (Shannon), grandchildren, Kyle, Davin and Blake; daughter Sharon (Bill), grandchildren, Ryan, Stephen, Tracy, great grandchildren Brody and Reese; daughter Geraldine, grandchildren Rochelle, Darrel, Krista, great grandchildren Brenden, Riley and Ocea.
Mom was born on November 26, 1908 in New Finland, Saskatchewan. She met Fred in New Finland and on November 8, 1936, Mom and Dad were married. They then moved to Thunder Bay and Sudbury and resided there for 5 years. In the fall of 1946, Dad moved to Sointula and the family joined him in the Spring og 1947.
First son Wayne was born in Sudbury and second son Larry was born in New Finland. First daughter Sharon was born in Vancouver and second daughter Geraldine born in Alert Bay.
A celebration of Mom’s life was held on November 29, 2003 at the Sointula Seniors Complex. Our family would like to thank the Nurses and caregivers at the Port McNeill hospital, the Sointula Home Care Nurse and Home Care staff for their excellent care, kindness and compassion. Also a special thanks to our brother Larry and sister-in-law Shannon for taking Mom into their homes and caring for her during her last six years.
