August 2, 1939 – January 2, 2017
It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of John (Jack) Robert Ewen. He passed away peacefully on January 2, 2017 in Comox, BC after a brief battle with cancer. He will be missed dearly by his children Melanie, Chantelle, Brandi, Tara, Clint (Tricia), Crystal (Aron), Scott (Jessica), Alison (Randy), Michelle (Mike) and Destin (Bill). He will also be missed by his many grandchildren, great-grandchild and extended family, having been the youngest of 14 siblings. Born on August 2, 1939 in Lockwood, SK, Jack spent the majority of his life in Port McNeill, BC where he was a well liked and respected member of the community. Jack first married Marolyn in 1969 becoming a father to her 3 children and then having 5 more of their own. Jack moved to Port McNeill in 1975 with his wife, Sheila when they bought and ran the local dry cleaner. In 1980 Jack and Sheila welcomed the first of their 2 children. He then bought the local Chevron gas station where he built a car wash, body shop and used car lot. He then put in a video store and gym next door. The next venture he took on was with fellow businessman Don Tunney in the building of Alder Bay Resort. After trying his hand at Emu farming for a number of years he then fulfilled a life-long dream of living on a golf course by building his own Par 3, Cedar Park Resort, with the help of his partner and friend, Anna-Marie. Jack spent the last few years of his life travelling to Arizona and relaxing with his companion, Lorraine. Jack always had a smile on his face and was often heard whistling a friendly tune. He definitely lived life to the fullest and is an inspiration on how to grow old gracefully. His laughter and charm will be sorely missed. There will be a celebration of Jack’s life in Port McNeill in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BC Cancer Agency.
