Marjorie Barratt (nee Cooper)

September 29, 1918-January 19, 2007

Marjorie passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 19, 2007 at Glacier View Lodge in Courtenay, BC.

She is predeceased by her husband Brain, sister Dolly, brothers George and Bill Cooper and parents Charles and Elizabeth Cooper. She is survived by her sons Peter (Sharon) in Port McNeill, BC and Leigh (Sylvia) in Kamloops, BC.

Marjorie’s adoptive nature over the years gathered many other sons and daughters to her side, in particular Karen, Denise and Janet. Additionally, she will be missed by her 5 grandchildren: Jennifer, Vicky, Aaron, Jason and Morgan and her 2 great grandchildren: Phoenix and Sol, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Marjorie was born in the Manchester area of England on September 29, 1918. She spent her youth travelling and dancing in the pantomimes with the George Formy troupe and remained a lover of ‘the stage’ all her life. During the war years she was in the ‘Fire Service’ in Manchester during the ‘Blitz’. At this time she met her future husband Brian, an R.A.F. Wireless Operator on Blenheim aircraft. After the war, Marjorie and Brian moved to the Vancouver area to raise their sons.

Along with raising 2 sons during her married life, she worked for Birks, H.A. Simons and finally BC Forest Products, where she was the head secretary in the purchasing dept. until her retirement. Her retirement years were spent visiting family and friends, organizing social events, primarily through the church and painting.

Marjorie had an enormous heart and was always finding room for one more in the family. She loved everyone equally and taught us all the great lessons of love, tolerance and understanding. When asked how she was doing her answer always was “All the better for seeing you…”

She will be sorely missed by all of us. Donations to Glacier View Lodge Society in Courtenay, in lieu of flowers would be appreciated.
