July 18, 1961 - July 29, 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Martin Anthony Waechter, who died suddenly at the age of 58 on July 29th, 2019 in Terrace, BC. He was born July 18, 1961 to Milton Waechter and Kathleen Danes in Alert Bay, BC.
Martin, known to his friends as "Marty", grew up in Alert Bay and spent much of his life in Sointula, BC, where he met Rhonda McDowell and had two daughters, Linnea and Veronica. He was a member of the Gitxsan Nation and decided to move to Hazelton, BC to pursue his passion for art at the Gitanmaax School of Northwest Coast Art. He and his family later moved to Terrace, BC where he became a professional cook.
Martin is survived by his daughters, Linnea and Veronica, his sister Cheryl, and his brother Shane, as well as many friends and relatives. He is predeceased by his mother, Kathleen Danes, and his father, Milton Waechter. A private memorial will be held for close family and friends.
