Martin Dieter Burkart 1954-2002
Martin passed away very suddenly August 16, 2002. Martin was well known and loved in Alert Bay, where he had lived with his wife Terry O’Neill since 1986. He operated a business (Magic Martin Repairs) there and worked part-time at the Alert Bay Shipyard. Martin was a Port McNeill resident for two years prior to moving to Alert Bay.
Born January 24, 1954, Martin is survived by his wife, brother Gerhard Burkart and sister-in-law Ilona of Sooke, BC; sister Carol Gibson and her husband Russell, also of Sooke; and sister Sylvia Formann of Germany. Other aunts, uncles and cousins are in the US and in Germany. Martin will be dearly missed by his family and his many friends throughout the North Island.
A memorial service will take place at Alert Bay Legion Hall, Saturday, August 24 at 1 pm, preceded by a viewing period from noon to 1 pm. Donations can be made to the Magic Martin Memorial Fund at Evergreen Savings Credit Union.
