May Mirjami Cadorin

Passed away May 2, 2005
May passed on peacefully with all her family at her side, following a courageous, hard fought seven year battle with cancer.
May immigrated to Canada with her family in 1952, settling in the Finnish community of Sointula, BC where she finished her schooling. She worked at the Goose Bay Salmon Cannery in the summer holidays and then worked at the Sointula Co-op store until she met and married her husband Gary.
May is survived by husband of 48 years, Gary. Daughters Darlene (Al), Penny and son Grant (Shelley). Grandchildren Mathew, Kaitlyn, Isaac and Kashyra.
May was a devoted homemaker and for many years a Girl Guide Leader in Sointula. May and Gary moved to Nanaimo in 1973. She was an avid skier and loved the cabin at Mt. Washington that she and Gary built. And where countless happy times were enjoyed with family and friends, especially our traditional New Year’s party. May had a hand in teaching many a youngster the basics of skiing. Her other loves were camping, fishing (she always caught the biggest ones), hunting trips, travelling, bowling, scrabble and above all cards, Crib and Liverpool Rummy were her game and woe unto her opponenets, Gord, the two Mikes, Rob & Ken. She also enjoyed the occasional game of “Let it Ride” at the casino.
The family wish to express their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Margo from Nanaimo Hospice, Dr. Theresa Van der goes, community health nurses and the wonderful nurses at the Palliative Care Unit at Nanaimo Regional Hospital who all did so much to comfort May throughout her struggle.

A celebration of May’s life will be held at 2pm on Saturday, May 14 at the First Memorial Chapel at 1720 Bowen Road, Nanaimo, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nanaimo Hospice Society.
