Michael Cotton

June 14, 2006

Michael Lawrence CottonBorn December 4th 1953 in Victoria BCSurvived by parents Frank and Ada Cotton, fi ancee Elaine Redmond, daughters Nicole and Lesley, grandson James Michael, sisters Lindsay and Melissa, companion Brier and numerous family and friends.Mike was a commercial fi sherman for 37 years, packing everything from salmon to most recently sea urchins off the Queen Charlotte Islands. While fi shing the coast, Mike very much appreciated the natural beauty around him, from the beaches of Agate to the village of Bella Bella. Mike was and extremely devoted father and a best friend to his two daughters. His support, kindness and words will be with them always. Michael and his father worked side by side, fi shing and painting, for many years with a level of respect and love that is seldom seen. The all encompassing love and support of Michael from his mother was something to be cherished. When Elaine joined Michael their life became an adventure, from hiking to camping, to working the coast together. Michaels’ last moments were doing what he loved most, riding his new bike with his partners’ arms around him. Michael was able to meet his fi rst grandchild, who carries his name, and witnessing the private conversations between the two was magical. Michael said that the ocean was in his blood. The relationship he had with the sea was nothing that could be explained. Michael’s spirit is still travelling this coast - he’s just out of range.A gathering will be held at Frank Cotton’s house on Sherman Road on June 24th from 1-4pm. Parking will be limited, access can be made via Allington Rd.In lieu of fl owers donations can be made to the Cowichan Bay Improvement Society P.O.
