After a long stuggle with Alzheimer’s disease, Rita passed away peacefully June 23. She is survived and sadly missed by her loving husband of 57 years, Jules; children Michel (Juliane), Louise, Marc (Caireen); grandchildren Jessica, Jordan, Ryan and Chantal and great-grandchildren Niklas, Clara, Hayli and Jackson and her large family in Quebec.
Born on August 22, 1928 in Ste. Charles de Mandeville Quebec, she had dreams of becoming a teacher but had to leave school upon her mother’s death in 1943 to care for her seven younger siblings. She married Jules in Montreal in 1952 and moved to Vancouver and to Port Hardy in 1953.
She learned English as she made friends and raised her family in her new community. With all her children in school, she worked hard in the service industry and she was active with the Port Hardy Hospital Auxiliary Society, Sr. Centre and spending time with family and friends.
Stricken with Alzheimer’s disease in 1998, Rita was gently cared for by the staff at Eagle Ridge Manor.
