Port Hardy wildfire update

An update on the wildfire that began outside of Port Hardy July 3

The Tsulquate River wildfire outside of Port Hardy that began July 3 is now 50% contained. Mike McCulley, Fire Information Officer with the B.C. Wildfire Service, said Thursday morning that the spot fire is 100% contained, and that crews are continuing to observe the area and watch for hot spots. More than forty firefighters are still working on the fire, as well as multiple helicopters.

McCulley said that a key message for the public is to stay well away from the area near the fire as it is full of large compromised trees with burnt root systems and dangerous limbs. McCulley adds that Thursday's weather is going to be very warm and slightly windy, conditions that have made the past week of battling this wildfire extra challenging.
