Members of the RAF’s 101 Squadron got together with the Canadian Rangers and members of the Port McNeill and Port Hardy Junior Rangers Saturday to mark the Second World War’s Battle of Britain, the first major campaign to be fought entirely by air forces.
“(The ceremony) is normally done on the third Sunday of September, but we do it on the fourth Sunday so we can bring people up from Comox,” said Russ Hellberg, a former major and navigator with the 101.
The day was marked by laying of wreaths at Port Hardy’s cenotaph, singing O Canada and God Save the Queen.
Pacific Coastal supplied a plane for a flyover near the end of the ceremony.
