It’s going to be a rockin’ good time at the Gate House Theatre in Port McNeill on Feb. 24.
According to a news release from the Gate House, WiL is a musician with history, experience, and a stage presence and guitar style that has often been called mesmerizing.
“His lush, and full acoustic guitar sounds seem to effortlessly match his fiery and independent West Coast, Indie roots.”
The Gate House noted that as a singer/songwriter, WiL has paid his dues and earned his reputation through two plus decades of hard work including, touring with the likes of: Colin James, Matthew Good, Burton Cummings, Ray LaMontagne, The Hip and Canadian Indie darling, Feist.
“It’s obvious to those who have heard him that WiL’s music reflects his life, and he wasn’t one for school. Billy’s youth consisted of skateboarding and holing up and listening to music that ranged from Chet Atkins to The Sex Pistols.” Then in 1998 he heard what he calls, ‘the flagrant use of an overdrive pedal on an acoustic guitar’ in Neutral Milk Hotel’s, In An Aeroplane Over the Sea, and his life and playing style began to change and it wasn’t long before he had a record deal with EMI.
The Gate House added WiL has countless shows now under his belt, and a few sweet accolades that include penning ‘Roam’, the award-winning anthem for Travel Alberta and ‘Ride’, The Calgary Stampede’s 100th year anniversary song.
WiL is set to begin his 6th studio album ‘The Gold Mine’.
It’s been more than 20 years since first hearing Neutral Milk Hotel and Wil’s music continues to grow and evolve. And as he quickly admits, he’s still not done.
