Kevin Cameron narrowly defeated Dave Stewart in the Port Alice mayoral election on Saturday night, 167 votes to 104.
Stewart had previously conceded the election, stating that if he was voted in he would immediately step down, thus forcing a by-election to happen.
Despite this, Cameron said he didn’t think winning was a foregone conclusion at all, noting, “it was still an election and Dave’s name still remained on the ballot.”
He added that he was really pleased with how the election turned out, pointing out they had a good number of people who came out to make their voices heard, “and at the end of the day I was the successful candidate.”
Cameron served nine years as a councillor for the Village of Port Alice in the past, and when asked if he had any projects that he is interested in getting started on right away, he said he will see “how everything is fitting together before we make any comments on that.”
Port Alice elected four councillors: Holly Aldis, Angela Yunker, Bruce Lloyd, and Warren Beatty.
