Funding for a local airport in Winter Harbour will help ensure a better experience for the people and businesses who rely on the airport.
“For remote communities, air access is a vital link to the rest of the province,” says Michele Babchuk, MLA for the North Island. “Improvements to the Winter Harbour Helipad will help ensure this service is there when people need it.”
The Winter Harbour Helipad is receiving $27,300 from the BC Air Access Program for their general improvement project.
Across the province, the BCAAP will support 40 projects at 29 air facilities, improving safety, security, and passenger facilities. Projects include runway extensions, improved runway lighting, pavement improvements, terminal enhancements, and better fire protection.
Since its launch in 2015, the BCAAP grant program has committed $66.8 million to infrastructure projects at 71 air facilities.
Winter Harbour is a quaint West Coast village located at the mouth of Quatsino Sound. The village was hit heavily by the loss of the commercial fishing industry in the late 1990s.
