The Port McNeill RCMP have caught the suspects who allegedly burned the World’s Biggest Burl.
Early Thursday morning (May 18) at 1:29 a.m., RCMP received a report of a fire at the World’s Largest Burl, located on the 1400 block of Broughton Boulevard. Both the burl and it’s structure were fully engulfed in flames causing extensive damage to the uniquely large spruce growth. Its protective structure was completely destroyed. CCTV from the area showed two suspects carrying what appeared to be a yellow jerry can in the area of the burl around 11:19 p.m., the time the fire started.
Thanks to the CCTV photos, the suspects both have been identified and arrested. They have now been released for a later court date pending charge approval.
“Thanks to the public and the media for their assistance with this investigation,” stated the RCMP.
