A pedestrian died after being hit on the Pat Bay Highway Friday night.

Saanich police were called to the 5100 block of Highway 17 – the area near Haliburton Road – on Feb. 2 around 8 p.m. after a pedestrian was hit by a pickup truck in the northbound lanes, according to Saanich police.

A 29-year-old woman from Greater Victoria, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Saanich police collision analysts continue to investigate; however, impairment or speed of the driver do not appear to be factors,” Inspector Damian Kowalewich said in a news release. “Our condolences go out to the family and friends of the woman.”

The driver remained at the scene.

The collision didn’t take place at or near a crosswalk, police said.
