Dave passed away peacefully March 4th, 2004 with his family at his side, after a long and courageous battle with diabetes.

Dave was a life-long fisherman and logger. Starting his fishing career at the age of twelve, with his first Gillnetter and working winters in the forest industry, first as a whistle punk, then chokerman, all the rigging jobs, high rigging spar trees, then falling timber for 39 winters. Dave had many boats in his career building some, buying others.

He was instrumental in the pioneering of the roe herring gillnet fishery. In 1973 arguing for the rights of the small boat fleet! He fished halibut all of his life, finally with the Lady Cypress, with his sons and grandsons.

He served as a director for the Mutual Marine Insurance Company for 23 years and was known for his honesty and integrity throughout his life.

Dave Leaves behind his wife Lillian who he travelled the world and enjoyed life to the fullest.

He was predeceased by his son Barry (Karen) in 2002. He leaves behind son Calvin (Crystal), daughter Doreen (Mark), 8 grandchildren Dinah (Sam), David (Denise), Maren (Scott), Travis (Michelle), Vanessa, Cailyn, Scotia, Conner, and Rowan, and 2 great grandchildren,?Josie and Malcolm as well as many, many friends.

He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Donation to the Sointula Cemetery in lieu of flowers.

A memorial and celebration of Dave’s life will be held after the Herring Fishery.
