June 26, 1941 - October 8, 2021
David John Thomas Ashley, a resident of Port Alice for over 40 years, passed away on Friday 8-Oct- 2021. David was born on 26-Jun-1941 in Calgary, Alberta and is predeceased by his mother Betty Phyllis Ashley, and his father John Henry Ashley (known as Jack).
Known as "Keno Dave" or "The Friendly Giant", David spent most of his adult life working for Western Pulp Limited. In his free time and retirement, he enjoyed reading, watching movies, playing Keno, going for long walks, making people smile, and giving some a playful hard time. He was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, and could often be found at the Legion.
David is remembered as a man who, while quiet, loved to play. Lori and James recall his boisterous, teasing personality as children, and loved to see him continue that same playfulness with his grand-nieces. You could always be guaranteed a smile and a laugh with Uncle Dave. His sister remembers him as always looking after her. He helped put her through university.
David is survived by his sister, Sue (Andrew) Laine, his niece Lori (James) McMillan, his grand-nieces Rebecca and Rachel McMillan, and his step- nephew James Laine.
Thank you to Port Alice Health Center staff, the Port Alice RCMP officers, the staff at Port Alice Family Foods, and all of the community of Port Alice who knew and cared for David. We appreciate your kind thoughts at this time.
