Deane Henry Wooldridge
June 3, 1930-March 2, 2012
It is with great sadness that we say good-bye to Deane. He passed away at his home in Sointula on March 2, 2012.
Deane was born on June 3, 1930, the second child of Roy and Helen Wooldridge. He lived most of his life in the North Island (Port McNeill and Sointula). For a time he attended school in Victoria, but wasn’t keen on city life and was happy to return to the rural lifestyle. As a young man he loved to go camping, hiking around Vancouver Island, fishing, hunting and trapping.
In 1950 he married Aileen Wilman. They had 4 children together and would have celebrated their sixty-second anniversary on May 6.
His working years were spent fishing and logging. He was a man of conviction, fiercely loyal to the causes he believed in. He lived in Rough Bay and truly believed it was the best place on Earth.
We appreciated his quick wit and had many chuckles over the nicknames he bestowed on friends and family: Scooter, Fonz, Orphan Annie, Pearly Gates, Little Dawn, Foxy, Fast Eddie, Bullwinkle.
Deane was predeceased by his son Stevie and brother Roy. He is survived by his wife Aileen, daughter Vicki (Dennis), sons David and Roy (Michele), grandchildren Shannon, Ryan, Lyndsey, Natasha, Jill, 6 great grandchildren and brother Bill.
At Deane’s request, there will be no formal memorial service. In lieu of flowers, you may consider a donation to the Sointula Cemetery Fund.
The tide recedes but leaves behind
Bright seashells on the sand
The sun goes down but gentle
Warmth still lingers on the land
The music stops, yet it echoes
On in sweet refrains
For every joy that passes
Something good remains
We will miss you and love you always.
