Dorothy May Barrett

September 17, 2007

May, 29 1918 ~ September 17, 2007

Passed away peacefully at the age of 89.

What I would really like to be

Is what my mother is to me

To her I can always talk

About which paths I should walk

And I’d surely take a bet

That she’s the oldest teenager yet.

To light a fire upon the shore

She would ask for nothing more.

Fishing in our favorite creek

We try to go once a week

80 lb. line and a stick

She couldn’t cast far but she pulled in quick

A Christmas tree upon the bluff

Up to get it we did puff

Too big to get on board

Of firewood there’d be many a cord.

A dance hall floating, burning bright

It was quite an awesome sight

Two teenagers in a boat of blue

An unknown compliment they pay to you

All these things and more we’ve done

God, we’ve had so much fun.

All the time when I look back

A smile is what I never lack.

For though there have been times of blue

I never think of them with you.
